12/25/2023 0 Comments Halo reddit jul mdama![]() Overall, Jul's a complex guy whose motivations sit on a thin line between vengeful malice and a valid sense of duty to his people. Not out of hunger for power or religious fanaticism (although he also blames the Arbiter for the death of his wife), but the belief that the Arbiter's refusal to wipe out the humans will lead their own people to destruction. He's also waging a war against other Sangheili, led by the Arbiter, who are allies with humanity. Partially out of a desire to avenge his wife, partially out of a desire to protect his species from people that intend to weaken and cause chaos among them in the short run, and kill them all in the long run. However, I'll add that as much suffering as ONI has caused to his people, his family, and him personally, his current goal is still to eradicate humanity as a species. ONI made Jul, and all the death and destruction brought about by Jul's Covenant since its creation. Had ONI never gone down this "screw over the Sangheili" path (which they would tell you was to protect humanity), and in so doing killed Jul's wife and given him absolute proof that he was right about humanity at some level, he probably never would have become the terrorist leader he is now and simply settled down with his family. The ironic thing about Jul is that ultimately, Jul's a pretty reasonable guy and a family man at heart. Meanwhile his wife is killed during the first stage of that ONI-instigated civil war as well, proving to him that his bigotry was justified and fanning the flames of his distrust of humanity into outright hatred. A suspicion that was simple bigotry at first, but is unfortunately proven semi-correct when he uncovers a plan by ONI, Halo humanity's hyper-immoral shadow government intelligence agency, to sow civil war among Jul's own species and eventually eradicate them in the long run. The sole reason Jul is a villain at all is because he believed that humanity will rise up from the ashes of the Covenant War and, eventually, have their revenge by killing off or enslaving all former Covenant races, including his own. Which puts them head and shoulders above most villains.įirst up is Halo's Jul Mdama, Sangheili terrorist and leader of the Covenant in the post-Halo 3 era. While I wouldn't say any of these characters are morally right, nor do I approve of their goals and methods of reaching them, I do think they all have semi-valid points on at least one subject.
